Oscar Sudi Clarifies Remarks on Mobilising Votes for Ruto Ahead of 2027 Elections

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has clarified comments about adding votes for President William Ruto in the 2027 general election, insisting that his statement referred to voter mobilisation rather than any attempt to manipulate results. Speaking at his Eldoret home on Friday, June 20, 2025, Sudi said, The work we are doing is asking for votes. If they don’t add up, we keep soliciting. He emphasised that the focus is on grassroots outreach and encouraging citizens to participate in the electoral process.
Sudi also challenged opposition parties to focus on tangible development initiatives, such as building classrooms or public facilities, rather than relying on slogans or partisan rhetoric. He expressed confidence that President Ruto is poised for re-election, asserting that the government is ready for a vigorous campaign. His clarification follows remarks by the President urging Kenyans not to hand over leadership to politicians lacking credible development plans, while accusing some rivals of exploiting tribalism.
The statement drew mixed reactions. Ruto’s supporters welcomed it as a candid reflection of proactive campaign planning, while opposition figures viewed the original phrasing as problematic, questioning its implications for electoral integrity. Analysts note that such remarks heighten public attention on campaign conduct even before the official campaigns begin. Looking forward, Sudi and the ruling coalition will face close scrutiny to ensure their outreach efforts comply with electoral laws and maintain credibility as Kenya approaches the 2027 polls.
