Health experts are warning that sitting for long hours every day could be quietly harming your body—putting people at risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and even early death. According to cardiologists interviewed by Business Daily, spending too much time seated reduces blood flow, increases blood pressure, and raises the likelihood of metabolic disorders.
A recent workplace study in Kenya found that many workers in research institutes spend most of their time sitting, contributing to high rates of overweight and central obesity. This sedentary behavior also correlates with increased musculoskeletal issues, because prolonged static posture places stress on the spine, back muscles, and joints.
The physical risks don’t end there: remaining seated for long stretches has been linked to metabolic syndrome—a cluster of conditions including high blood sugar, high cholesterol, and excess waist fat—which significantly raises risk for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Experts note that even regular exercise may not fully offset these risks.
