Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka delivered a State of the County Address, highlighting key milestones and ongoing development initiatives across infrastructure, healthcare, trade, agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Infrastructure and Urban Development:
Opened and graveled 953 km of roads, constructed six bridges, and upgraded 11.5 km of urban roads in Bungoma Town to bitumen standards.
Initiated the construction of modern markets: Kshs. 373 million Soko Kubwa Market in Bungoma Town and Kshs. 343 million Chwele Market, featuring cold storage and ICT hubs.
Healthcare Improvements:
Building a mother-and-child hospital in Naitiri, a modern theatre in Cheptais, and equipping the 100-bed Sirisia facility.
Hired 548 healthcare workers and launched a Health Management Information System to digitize health services.
Economic Growth and Trade:
Progress on the County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Sang’alo, with an additional Kshs. 105.3 million secured for its completion.
Street lighting initiatives to boost security and commerce, and Kshs. 12 million in trade loans disbursed to support small-scale traders.
Agriculture and Livestock:
Distributed certified fertilizers and maize seeds to 21,900 farmers.
Provided avocado and coffee seedlings, 108 dairy cows, and 40 goats to enhance productivity and sustainability.
Youth, Vocational Training, and Sports:
Confirmed 303 VTC instructors and launched technical skills programs for youth.
Phase One of Chemoge High Altitude Training Centre completed; a marathon event planned for April 2025.
Climate Action:
Planted 600,000 trees last year, exceeding the national tree cover target, with commitments to expand green initiatives.
Governor Lusaka concluded with a call for unity and collaboration, emphasizing his commitment to building a resilient, prosperous, and inclusive Bungoma through strategic partnerships and increased budgetary allocations.
