Sport Facilities Upgraded Across Kiambu: New Basketball Courts, Ablution Blocks in Sub-Counties

by KenyaPolls

Kiambu County continues to prioritize youth empowerment and sports development with the completion of a FIBA-standard basketball court at Thika Stadium. The facility, constructed under Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s administration through the Department of Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication, provides a world-class playing surface, professional backboards, modern drainage, and clear court markings, enabling local and regional teams to train and compete safely. The new court also complements Thika’s ongoing transformation into an Industrial Smart City.

Chief Officer for Sports, Godfrey Masolo, emphasized that the project is part of the county’s broader commitment to revitalizing sports infrastructure while nurturing young talent. This new basketball court is designed to promote discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among our youth and athletes, he said. CECM Youth Affairs, Sports and Communication, Osman Korar, has been actively inspecting sports facilities across the county to ensure quality standards are met. Once operational, the court will host training sessions and competitive tournaments, further solidifying Thika’s reputation as a regional sports hub.

Local basketballer Jennifer Njeri described the court as a dream come true, noting that having a professional-grade facility locally allows athletes to train and showcase talent without traveling long distances. The project reflects Kiambu County’s dedication to fostering sports as a tool for youth development, community engagement, and broader infrastructure growth, in line with its mandate to enhance the quality of life for residents.
