Shebesh Says She Is Ready to Work With Sonko Despite Past Political Differences

Nairobi Woman Representative Rachel Shebesh has announced that she is prepared to work with Jubilee Party gubernatorial candidate Mike Sonko if both are elected, saying the city’s leadership must remain united regardless of past rivalries. Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, Shebesh emphasized that personal disputes should not interfere with service delivery, especially in a county as politically dynamic as the capital. Her remarks come amid heightened political activity as Jubilee leaders seek to consolidate support ahead of the polls.

Shebesh’s statement marks a shift from her earlier political stance, having previously campaigned alongside Peter Kenneth in a spirited contest against the Team Nairobi faction led by Sonko and senatorial aspirant Johnson Sakaja. During her tenure, Shebesh also had several public confrontations with both Sonko and then-Governor Evans Kidero, episodes that fueled political tension within the city. However, she noted that these disagreements are now behind her, insisting that leaders must prioritize harmony in order to effectively serve Nairobi residents.

Addressing the divisions within Jubilee’s Nairobi base, Shebesh said the party must recognize the influence of Peter Kenneth and ensure his supporters feel included. She argued that Kenneth’s voter base, campaign efforts, and political goodwill cannot simply be dismissed if the party hopes to maintain unity. Her comments appeared to be directed at leaders who, after winning nominations, may be inclined toward political triumphalism rather than building bridges with former rivals.

Looking ahead, Shebesh urged Jubilee candidates to adopt a more inclusive tone as campaigns enter their final stretch, stressing that Nairobi remains a politically balanced county with strong support for both the ruling party and the opposition. She maintained that a collaborative approach would be essential for any leader hoping to manage the city effectively. As the election season intensifies, the call for unity within Jubilee signals an effort to present a cohesive front—one that Shebesh believes will be necessary not just for electoral victory, but for governing Nairobi in the months that follow.
