Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Monday, February 23 visited the family of Vincent Ayomo, who was shot dead in Kitengela during ‘Linda Mwananchi’ rally on February 15.

“We have taken care of the funeral expenses,” Babu stated on his Facebook page, noting that “political rallies should be spaces for dialogue, not tragedy.”

While describing the death of Ayomo as heartbreaking and unacceptable, MP Babu offered sincere condolences to his widow, Khadija, and their infant child during this difficult time.

“We call for a swift, transparent investigation and urge authorities to protect, not endanger, citizens exercising their democratic rights. May his soul rest in peace,” he added.

Senator Sifuna expressed sorrow over the unnecessary death of Ayomo, promising to seek justice for him.

“Vincent was shot dead for no reason hours after our rally in Kitengela had been violently dispersed by police,” Sifuna said. “We will continue to demand that justice be served for Vincent, the latest needless death in Ruto’s legacy.”

An autopsy conducted on Ayomo’s body last Friday confirmed that the 28-year-old was killed by a single gunshot fired at close range.

The examination was performed by a government pathologist at Nairobi Funeral Home, in the presence of the family and their legal representatives.

The postmortem reveals a single gunshot entered his left eye, causing extensive damage to the brain, spinal cord, scalp and neck,” Advocate Janja Maina informed the media at the time.

According to his widow, Ayomo was the sole provider for his young family, and his passing leaves his wife, his one-and-a-half-year-old child, and his elderly mother in financial hardship.
