The Linda Mwananchi faction has formally petitioned the Registrar of Political Parties to block the registration of their movement as a political party by an unauthorized individual.
Through legal representatives Henia Anzala & Associates, the faction cited a newspaper report indicating that Charles Wanyonyi has submitted an application to register ‘Linda Mwananchi’ as a political party.
They emphasized that the Political Parties Act requires the Registrar to publish notifications in the Kenya Gazette and two national newspapers, inviting public objections to any registration.
The faction warned that approving the ongoing registration would create opportunities for fraudulent schemes targeting the public.
“The new party might exploit our clients’ names, images, and reputation to secure funding from either the public or other organizations through deceptive means,” the letter stated partially.
The faction called on the Registrar to prevent the fraud attempt by rejecting the application.
The Linda Mwananchi movement reveals deepening divisions within the party, which has split along ideological lines.
The Linda Mwananchi faction includes Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga, and others.
The rival Linda Ground faction, associated with ODM party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga, supports a broad-based coalition aligned with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Both groups have been organizing rallies nationwide to promote their respective agendas.
