Two individuals sustained injuries during an armed robbery at an MPesa outlet located in Ondisore Market, Gem Wagai sub-county, Siaya County.
According to police reports, the incident took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, when five armed assailants on two motorcycles with hidden registration numbers entered the shop and fired shots at the victims before escaping.
The wounded individuals were transported to St. David Community Health Centre and subsequently transferred to Siaya County Referral Hospital for additional medical care.
One victim received a gunshot wound to the left shoulder, while the other suffered a gunshot injury to the left thigh. Both victims are said to be in stable condition.
Forensic investigators discovered two empty bullet casings at the scene, which are anticipated to assist with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet determined if any money or valuables were stolen, as the inquiry into the motive and identities of the attackers continues.
The locality has recently seen an increase in criminal activity, leading to additional police officers being deployed to locate the suspects, as reported on Friday.
In a unrelated case, a 42-year-old casual worker died after suffering serious head trauma when a building column fell during demolition work in Kiminini sub-county, Trans Nzoia County.
Police stated the incident happened on March 20, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m., though it was only reported on March 26 by the deceased’s spouse.
The deceased, David Okutoi, was hit on the head when one of the columns being demolished collapsed. He was rescued and taken to Kijana Wamalwa Teaching and Referral Hospital, where he received treatment for five days before dying from his injuries on the morning of March 25. His body was transported to the mortuary where an autopsy is pending.
