At a major education‑sector meeting attended by thousands of teachers and school heads, President William Ruto announced a sweeping package of reforms aimed at improving teacher welfare. The pledges include access to affordable housing, faster pension processing, a review of medical cover, and adjusted career progression for head teachers. Under the new plan, a pass-out, pass-in recruitment model will prioritize long-waiting graduates, especially those over 45 or trained as primary-school teachers — with 24,000 new hires planned by January 2026.
