Ruto opens 19th Ambassadors, High Commissioners Conference in Nairobi

President William Ruto officially launched the 19th Ambassadors and High Commissioners Conference in Nairobi on Saturday, emphasizing the need to establish Kenya as a premier investment hub and a reliable international ally.

Addressing attendees at the conference’s commencement, Ruto highlighted Kenya’s commitment to enhancing its diplomatic footprint and pursuing its national objectives within a challenging global context.

The President stated, “Our objective is to establish Kenya not merely as an attractive investment location, but also as a dependable collaborator in influencing global developments.”

Spanning until Monday, March 30, 2026, the conference carries the theme “Advancing Kenya’s Interests in a Rapidly Evolving Geopolitical Landscape.”

The event convenes Kenya’s diplomatic representatives, comprising Heads of Mission, deputy ambassadors, and consuls-general, to synchronize foreign policy with the nation’s development agenda.

Ruto characterized the conference as a significant forum for evaluating Kenya’s diplomatic strategy and improving coordination among overseas missions to promote economic diplomacy, peace initiatives, and international alliances.

“It is a particular privilege for me to be part of this 19th Ambassadors’ Conference as you deliberate on optimal approaches to advance Kenya’s interests in a swiftly changing geopolitical environment,” he remarked.

The President mentioned his review of the conference agenda and expressed admiration for its extensive scope, noting it represents a thorough plan addressing critical diplomatic objectives.

In his view, the program encompasses essential domains such as economic diplomacy, the dynamics of an emerging multi-polar world, peace and security, climate diplomacy and green industrialization, science and technology, global health cooperation, and the maritime economy.

Ruto stressed the importance of Kenya’s diplomatic posts maintaining proactivity and adaptability to worldwide shifts while championing the nation’s economic and strategic goals.

Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Kenya’s representative to the United Nations Environment Programme, Mama Ida Odinga, were also present at the event.

The conference is anticipated to offer a venue for diplomats to reassess foreign policy priorities, reinforce collaboration between governmental departments and overseas missions, and formulate approaches to elevate Kenya’s standing in global commerce, climate efforts, and regional peace endeavors.

Ruto reaffirmed that Kenya’s diplomatic service plays a pivotal role in advancing the nation’s economic progress by securing investments, building alliances, and advocating for Kenya’s interests internationally.

He encouraged the diplomats to leverage the conference to synchronize their approaches with national development objectives and guarantee Kenya’s continued competitiveness and relevance in the changing geopolitical environment.
