President William Ruto on Saturday initiated significant development projects in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County, including the establishment of a modern market and the implementation of rural electrification programs designed to enhance commerce and improve living standards.
During his regional visit, the President laid the foundation for the multi-million-shilling Lunga Lunga modern market.
“Placed the foundation stone for the Sh139 million Lunga Lunga modern market, one of six similar markets currently being developed throughout Kwale County intended to offer our traders with an appropriate environment to expand their enterprises and livelihoods,” he stated.
In addition to the market development, the President also initiated the Last Mile Connectivity Programme in Ngathini village, which will connect 3,980 households to electricity at an expense of Sh362 million.
According to the President, the government is allocating a total of Sh1.8 billion in Kwale County under the electrification initiative.
“Overall, we are investing Sh1.8 billion to illuminate more than 15,000 households in Kwale County, which will stimulate business and generate opportunities for our citizens,” he shared.
He mentioned that the expansion of power infrastructure represents a fundamental component of the government’s development strategy focused on unlocking economic potential in underserved regions.
Furthermore, Ruto announced the implementation of substantial education infrastructure and youth empowerment programs in Kwale County aimed at improving educational conditions and broadening access to technical training opportunities.
He noted that the government is constructing 3,600 hostel units across universities, TVET institutions and KMTC colleges in Kwale County to furnish students with a respectable and favorable learning atmosphere.
“Placed the foundation stone for the construction of hostels at Lunga Lunga Technical and Vocational College in Lunga Lunga Constituency, a Sh260 million project that will improve accommodation capacity in the institution,” he mentioned.
“We will also sponsor over 250 students from the region to participate in short courses at the college at a cost of Sh5 million, as part of our dedication to empowering the youth with practical skills.”
The Lunga Lunga projects complement a range of development initiatives the President is reviewing during his coastal tour with other leaders.
