Government Launches Multi-Million Shilling Development Projects in Ugunja Constituency
The national government has unveiled a comprehensive development agenda in Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County, aimed at boosting the region’s economy, education, and housing under President William Ruto’s administration.
Key initiatives include the construction of modern marketplaces under the Economic Stimulus Programme. Kayombi and Sidindi markets, each costing Ksh.70 million, will host 300 traders, while the Ugunja Municipality Market, budgeted at Ksh.350 million, is set to accommodate over 1,500 traders with enhanced amenities such as parking, storage bays, and sanitation facilities. Additional markets are planned in Sikalame, Sigomere, and Ligega, serving 300 to 500 traders each.
In the housing sector, 400 units will be built in Uref as part of the Affordable Housing Programme, providing quality homes for local residents.
Education infrastructure is also receiving significant investment. Projects in progress include a 340-bed facility at KMTC Ugunja, accommodation at Ugunja Technical and Vocational College, and a 580-bed student housing facility at the Ugunja National Youth Service Campus.
Officials describe the multi-sectoral investment as transformative, designed to uplift living standards, stimulate trade, and enhance access to education and housing within Ugunja Constituency.
