In a significant de-escalation of the nation’s political crisis, President William Ruto and Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga have agreed to a 14-day bipartisan parliamentary dialogue. This follows weeks of mass protests called by the opposition over the high cost of living and disputed 2022 polls. The talks, announced after mediation by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, will see each side nominate five members to a committee. Odinga has consequently suspended the twice-weekly demonstrations, stating he will give dialogue a chance. The committee is expected to address key issues including the reconstitution of the IEBC and the audit of the 2022 presidential election servers.
