Narok Authorities Warn Residents Against Spreading False Information
The Narok Central Sub-County Police Commander, John Momanyi, has issued a stern warning to residents against circulating unverified claims on social media that could stoke unrest in the county. His statement follows a recent incident in Narok town when a body was discovered on Nyawira Street, prompting rapid speculation and rumors online that the man had been violently murdered by a gang of thugs.
Momanyi clarified that preliminary investigations showed the deceased had no visible physical injuries, contradicting the social media narrative that he had been hacked to death.
He urged content creators, including bloggers and social media users, to verify information with police or other credible sources before posting, stressing that spreading false or inflammatory content could lead to arrests and prosecution.
He also reaffirmed that Narok remains largely peaceful, assuring investors and business people that the security situation is stable.
Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu echoed this confidence, noting that while crime does rise during the wheat-harvesting season, the county government has bolstered patrols and is working to curb criminal activity through targeted security operations.
