Public Service Chief Felix Koskei has called on those in possession of illegal weapons to hand them over voluntarily as part of measures to ensure lasting peace and stability in Kerio Valley. Once known as the ‘Valley of Death’ for persistent banditry and cattle theft, the region is now witnessing substantial progress after peace was restored. Addressing a school performance appreciation event in Kinyach, Baringo North, Koskei highlighted that Kerio Valley had historically been plagued by insecurity and violence. He pointed out that the government’s unified peace approaches have yielded positive outcomes, with a marked reduction in banditry cases. Enhanced security has enabled the area to achieve significant advancements in economic development, infrastructure expansion, and educational access. Koskei emphasized that lasting peace can only be secured through the surrender of all illegal guns. He appealed to weapon holders to reject confrontation and instead pursue economic empowerment and educational opportunities. He stated that genuine regional transformation will occur when residents wholeheartedly commit to peaceful living and development-focused initiatives. The Public Service Chief also praised local leaders for their unity and shared commitment to peace advocacy. He acknowledged their efforts in putting aside political divisions to collaboratively work toward creating harmony and stability. Their guidance, he observed, has been instrumental in rebuilding community trust and steering the area away from recurring violence. Supporting Koskei’s position, Tiaty MP William Kamket declared that the period of ignorance and cattle conflicts is now over. He confirmed that Baringo County is advancing developmentally following the return of peace. Kamket stressed that security has unlocked opportunities for investment, better living standards, and improved public services. Likewise, Baringo Senator Vincent Chemitei reinforced the significance of preserving peace as the basis for ongoing growth and prosperity. He stressed the importance of residents protecting the achievements attained and concentrating on education, economic pursuits, and community unity.
