Nairobi County Seeks Public Views on Affordable Housing Regeneration Plan

The Nairobi City County Government has launched a public participation exercise to gather residents’ views on its upcoming Affordable Housing and Urban Renewal projects, aimed at transforming the county’s old estates into modern, livable apartments. The initiative is part of the county’s broader regeneration plan to address the growing demand for decent and affordable housing within the city.

According to the County Government, the redevelopment will target aging residential estates across Nairobi, replacing dilapidated structures with high-quality, affordable apartments designed to accommodate more families while improving the overall urban landscape. The move aligns with Governor Johnson Sakaja’s pledge to ensure that every Nairobi resident has access to safe and dignified housing.

Residents, estate dwellers, and other stakeholders are being invited to share their opinions through an online questionnaire available in both English and Kiswahili. The county has emphasized the importance of inclusivity, encouraging all participants to respond to every question before submitting their feedback. The results of the exercise will guide decision-making and ensure that the final housing designs reflect community needs. County officials have reiterated that this participatory approach is central to Nairobi’s regeneration strategy, ensuring that development is not only modern but also people-centered.
