Murang’a County authorities are investigating the killing of a four-year-old boy in Kiriaini village, Mathioya. The PP1 pupil was found dead with deep head wounds, and a blood-stained panga—suspected to be the murder weapon—was recovered at the scene.
A suspect linked to the incident was rescued by police after being confronted and assaulted by a local mob. He is currently detained at a local police station pending further investigations and possible murder charges. The child’s body has been moved to the mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police have yet to determine the motive behind the killing. Authorities have emphasized that such crimes are serious offenses under the law and are urging the community to report any information that could aid the investigation.
Elsewhere in the country, police are investigating multiple cases involving infants, including an abandoned baby in Nairobi and a child rescued from a pit latrine in Nandi County, highlighting growing concerns over child abuse and infanticide.
