Police in Busia Seize Ethanol, Launch Manhunt for Suspect
Police in Busia have intercepted a significant consignment of ethanol and launched a manhunt for a suspect who fled the scene during the operation. The multi-agency security team acted on a tip-off, leading to the discovery of 1,200 litres of the highly concentrated alcohol, which is often used in the manufacture of illicit brews. The ethanol was seized from a residential premises where it was being stored, but the prime suspect managed to evade capture.

According to the police, the seizure is a major blow to a local network involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit and toxic alcoholic beverages. The suspect is believed to be a key distributor in the region. Authorities have vowed to intensify the crackdown on illicit alcohol, which has been linked to numerous health issues and social problems within the community. The public has been urged to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the individual.

The Busia County Police Commander confirmed that the suspect will face charges related to the possession of uncustomed goods and contravention of the Kenya Revenue Authority regulations once apprehended. The multi-agency team, comprising of the police and KRA officials, has heightened surveillance to curb the flow of such hazardous substances in the county.
