Police Launch Manhunt for Gang Behind Wave of Car Break-Ins in Kitale
Authorities in Trans Nzoia have launched a major operation to track down a sophisticated criminal gang responsible for a sharp rise in car break-ins within Kitale town. The gang, which operates with precision during the night and early morning, has been targeting parked vehicles in the town’s central business district and residential areas, making off with valuable items including electronics, cash, and personal documents left inside by motorists.
According to police reports, the criminals have been employing specific tactics to avoid detection. They often target vehicles parked in dimly lit or isolated areas, using tools to silently smash car windows, allowing for a swift grab-and-go operation. The surge in these incidents has caused significant financial loss and growing anxiety among residents and business owners, who now fear leaving their cars unattended even for short periods.
In response, the Trans Nzoia police command has formed a special squad and intensified both day and night patrols in identified crime hotspots. County Police Commander Fredrick Oching has urged the public to exercise greater vigilance, advising motorists to avoid leaving any valuables in their cars and to park in well-lit, secure areas. The police have also called on the public to share any suspicious information, assuring residents of their confidentiality as the manhunt for the elusive gang members continues.
