Police Bullets Aim for Historic Third Straight KWPL Title

Kenya Police Bullets head coach David Vijago states that Saturday’s victory against Zetech Sparks was crucial to their pursuit of the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL) championship.

The two-time league champions secured a narrow 1-0 win through Margaret Kunihira’s second-half goal, keeping them on track for a record third consecutive title.

The law enforcement team missed several scoring opportunities in the first half before Kunihira broke the deadlock in the 83rd minute to secure maximum points.

“The match was challenging, but we’re pleased with the result. This win was vital as it allowed us to create distance at the top of the table, reducing pressure from our competitors,” Vijago commented.

The CAF license A holder acknowledges the intense league competition and urges the Bullets to maintain their focus while pursuing the championship with rivals Ulinzi Starlets and Vihiga Queens in pursuit.

“The league has become highly competitive and grown significantly, which is positive. However, we must remain alert and ensure victory in all remaining matches,” Vijago stated.

“A single loss could cost us the title race. We’re confident we’ll continue performing at the highest level and defend our championship,” he added.

Vijago also commended Uganda’s deadly attacker Kunihira, who leads the scoring charts with 12 goals, for her goal-scoring ability that has kept Bullets atop the standings.

The 21-year-old has been exceptional at the Police Sacco grounds since joining Bullets last year.

With the current champions having the most players called to the Kenya U 20 camp, Vijago praised the quality of his squad, noting the teenage players’ hard work and talent as key to their selections.

Bullets have six players in the Jackeline Juma-led squad, including Captain Halima Imbachi and regular center-back Elizabeth Ochaka.

“The selected players are talented and committed, earning their places in the national team. I’m confident they can help Rising Starlets qualify for the World Cup,” said Vijago.

Kenya Police Bullets currently lead the standings with 31 points after 13 matches, while Ulinzi Starlets, Vihiga Queens, and Trinity Starlets occupy second, third, and fourth positions with 29, 26, and 24 points respectively.
