Ruto Opens Sh56.7 Million Suswa Market in Narok, Boosting Local Trade
Narok, Kenya — 6 May 2025
President William Ruto officially inaugurated the Sh 56.7 million Suswa ESP Market in Narok County during his two-day development tour, calling it a major step toward empowering local traders and boosting the county’s small-scale economy. He was joined by Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku.
The new market caters to up to 200 traders and includes modern amenities like display areas, cold storage, a food court, and structured loading/offloading zones. The project — jointly funded by the national government and Narok County — is part of the broader ESP (Economic Stimulus Programme), which supports Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
In his address, Governor Ntutu praised the initiative for promoting growth and creating business opportunities for local entrepreneurs. He highlighted how the market will ease access to trade infrastructure and provide a reliable venue for farmers and vendors to expand their operations.
Residents welcomed the investment, noting that the facility could help improve livelihoods, especially for farmers who can now store produce and prevent losses. With the new market, small-scale traders in Narok are hopeful for more stable income and better access to economic opportunities — aligning with the government’s broader push to support grassroots economic development.
