Parliamentary Women Pledge Renewed Focus on Maternal and Child Health

by KenyaPolls

Women legislators have vowed to prioritise maternal and child health policies after a forum highlighted persistent gaps in service delivery. Members of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) and allied male MPs said they will push for dedicated funding lines, improved referral systems and stronger community health networks to reduce maternal deaths and newborn complications. The group cited recent indicators showing modest improvements in skilled birth attendance but stressed more investment is needed in emergency obstetric care, blood supplies and transport for rural mothers. Advocates urged the formation of cross‑party working groups to speed up legislative reforms and ensure counties translate policy into services at facility level.
