Pair Arrested with 200+ Cartons of Illegal Alcohol in Nandi

by KenyaPolls

Two individuals have been taken into custody in Nandi County following the discovery of unauthorized alcoholic beverages commonly known as second-generation liquor, suspected to have come from Uganda. The arrests underscore ongoing efforts to combat illegal brews that have become a major public health concern, especially affecting young people.

The suspects were detained in Kilibwoni while conveying over 200 cartons of the banned alcoholic products. Official reports indicate the shipment was being transported from western Kenya to Nakuru City via a Probox vehicle, frequently used for illicit operations. The successful operation resulted from collaborative efforts between National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) officers, local security personnel, and community members.

After their apprehension, the two suspects were remanded at Kapsabet Police Station while awaiting court appearance. They will likely confront charges concerning the unlawful production, distribution, and conveyance of unregistered alcoholic commodities.

Regarding the incident, NACADA Director Benjamin Kuttoh voiced profound worry about the rising intake of illegal alcohol, especially among the youth. He mentioned that numerous young people have become victims of substance abuse, with some experiencing serious health issues from consuming unregulated and possibly hazardous beverages. Kuttoh stressed the importance of implementing stringent legal measures against individuals engaged in the unlawful alcohol business, proposing that violators should encounter harsh consequences, including property confiscation, following guidelines previously outlined by President William Ruto.

‘These individuals must confront the full force of the law, including asset seizure by the Kenya Revenue Authority, as a method to control this problem,’ stated Kuttoh.

In a separate development, Nandi Central Police Commander Mourice Okul delivered a firm caution to those participating in unauthorized alcohol enterprises. He reassured citizens that security organizations maintain alertness and dedication to dismantling networks involved in the manufacture and circulation of illegal beverages. Okul encouraged residents to persist in collaborating with law enforcement by reporting questionable conduct.

‘We issue a serious warning to persons involved in this enterprise and declare that Nandi is a prohibited area for such activities!’, He emphasized.

Government officials have restated their dedication to protecting community wellbeing and guaranteeing that those responsible encounter complete legal consequences.
