Old Mutual Launches Thrive App to Combat Burnout in Kenya

by KenyaPolls

Old Mutual has unveiled a new digital wellness platform, Thrive, designed to address Kenya’s escalating burnout and lifestyle health crisis. The app consolidates physical, mental, nutritional, and financial well-being tools into a single platform, offering a comprehensive approach to managing daily stressors and promoting long-term resilience. Its launch comes amid rising concern over the economic and societal impact of stress-related disorders, which affect more than 3.7 million Kenyans and cost the economy over KSh 112 billion annually.

Thrive targets a range of wellness challenges, particularly those experienced by middle and senior management professionals facing long work hours, financial pressures, and poor nutrition. The platform allows users to track their spending habits, monitor mental health through journaling and guided breathing exercises, and plan meals with integrated nutrition tools. By converting everyday lifestyle decisions into measurable milestones, the app encourages incremental, sustainable behavior changes that can improve overall well-being. Old Mutual Group CEO, Arthur Oginga, emphasized that Thrive is more than a wellness tool; it’s a step towards reshaping how we think about health and resilience, empowering individuals, families, and communities to thrive.

The launch reflects a growing trend among financial institutions to expand into preventive wellness technology, recognizing the link between chronic stress, poor financial habits, and declining workplace productivity. Thrive is part of Old Mutual’s broader digital transformation strategy in East Africa, making wellness more accessible and integrated for users across the region. Available for both Android and iOS, the app aims to bridge gaps in fragmented wellness tools, supporting Kenyans in taking proactive steps toward better health while strengthening productivity and community well-being
