Organic Farming Reduces Pesticide Use, Protects Public Health

November 2025 — A recent study published in Agronomy highlights the health and environmental benefits of organic farming, emphasizing its role in reducing reliance on chemical pesticides.

The research, conducted by Charles Benbrook, Susan Kegley, and Brian Baker, compared pesticide use in organic and conventional farming systems. The findings indicate that organic farms apply pesticides far less intensively, largely relying on biopesticides that are non-toxic and pose minimal risks to human health and the environment.

Eating organic food, particularly fruits and vegetables, can significantly lower dietary exposure to harmful pesticides, the authors noted. Organic farming also leverages ecological processes, biodiversity, and natural cycles to manage pests, in contrast to conventional systems which primarily depend on chemical interventions.

The study recommends broader adoption of organic practices along the food supply chain to further reduce pesticide use, mitigate environmental impacts, and improve public health.
