Police in Nyeri Arrest 40 in Crackdown on Notorious ‘Sores’ Criminal Gang
Police in Nyeri have arrested 40 individuals identified as members of the notorious criminal gang known as ‘Sores’ in a major security crackdown. The operation, which involved a multi-agency team, was launched to dismantle the network responsible for a wave of robberies, extortion, and violence terrorizing residents and business owners in the county. The suspects are linked to organized criminal activities that have undermined security in the region.
According to the police, the arrests were made following weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance on the gang’s operations and hideouts. The crackdown also led to the recovery of crude weapons and stolen property. The Nyeri County Commissioner, Pius Murugu, stated that the suspects will be processed for arraignment in court to face various criminal charges, including engaging in organized crime, which carries severe penalties.
The operation has been hailed by local leaders and residents, who have long suffered from the gang’s activities. Security officials have assured the public that the crackdown is ongoing and urged citizens to continue providing information that could lead to more arrests. This decisive action is part of a broader government effort to restore law and order and disrupt the financial and operational networks of criminal gangs in Central Kenya.
