Governor Amos Nyaribo of Nyamira County has restructured his county administration in a strategic move intended to enhance service delivery while navigating the political landscape leading to next year’s General Elections.
Several impacted officials harbor personal political aspirations or are linked to various politicians with conflicting interests.
The vocal County Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, Jones Omwenga, has been reassigned to Trade, Tourism, and Cooperative Development.
Omwenga is believed to be pursuing the North Mugirango parliamentary seat, which is currently occupied by Joash Nyamoko, chair of the Lands Committee in the National Assembly.
Stephen Oboso will now manage Finance matters, having previously maintained a low profile in county affairs, while Bernard Maina assumes responsibility for Lands, Housing, Urban Development, and Physical Planning.
John Matiang’isibling of Jubilee Presidential candidate Dr Fred Matiang’iwas transferred from the prominent Environment, Water, Energy, Natural Resources, and Climate Change portfolio to the less significant Gender, Culture, and Sports department.
Indications suggest that Matiang’i’s rapport with the governor has deteriorated over recent months.
Alice Manoti, a long-serving County Minister, has been promoted from Gender to the Environment portfolio, while Public Service Management Chief Officer Rael Momanyi, whose staff relations have been inconsistent, has been reassigned to Gender, Culture, Sports, and Social Services, exchanging positions with Dr. Mercy Motanya.
Governor Nyaribo has instructed all affected officials to complete transition processes before County Secretary Dr. Jack Magara within one week.
Governor Nyaribo, who joined the Nyamira County Government at the beginning of devolution in 2013 as deputy to the late inaugural governor John Nyagarama, will seek re-election on August 10, 2027, under his UPA party flag.
Observers note that the reorganization not only improves administrative efficiency but also prepares key contenders for the 2027 electoral contests, demonstrating the perpetual nature of politics.
