New medical equipment procured for Nyamira Referral Hospital to boost health services

Nyamira County has strengthened its healthcare capacity with the delivery of a new consignment of modern medical equipment to the Nyamira County Referral Hospital, marking one of the largest facility upgrades in recent years. The equipment—ranging from hydraulic and electric maternity beds to new wards’ bedding, patient uniforms, and wheelchairs—was officially received by County Executive Committee Member for Health, Dr. Donald Mogoi, on behalf of Governor Amos Nyaribo. County officials say the move is aimed at raising the quality of care, easing congestion in wards, and ensuring a more dignified experience for patients seeking services at the region’s biggest hospital.

The Governor, in remarks delivered through Dr. Mogoi, highlighted the administration’s broader investment in critical infrastructure, including the sinking of a borehole to permanently address chronic water shortages that had previously hampered service delivery. He emphasized that the introduction of high-tech maternity beds would be particularly impactful, helping mothers deliver in safer, more comfortable conditions while reducing pressure on healthcare workers. In addition to equipment upgrades, the county distributed 1,200 blankets, 1,500 patient uniforms, and 1,500 bedsheets—color-coded according to specific wards to streamline operations and ensure easier patient management. The hospital also received 150 general ward beds, a development expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve recovery conditions.

Residents and health workers welcomed the improvements, describing them as a timely boost to a facility that serves thousands across the county and neighbouring regions. Health officials said the new equipment symbolizes the county’s renewed focus on efficiency, hygiene, and patient dignity—priorities that align with ongoing efforts to transform the institution into a regional center of excellence. Analysts note that continued investment in public health infrastructure is vital for improving outcomes, especially in maternity and emergency care. With the new upgrades already in use, the county government maintains that this is just one step in a long-term plan to raise service standards and ensure Nyamira residents benefit from reliable, modern, and people-centered healthcare.
