The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced Nashon Kondiwa as the new Director General of the organization. According to a statement released on Wednesday, February 18, Kondiwa’s three-year contract commenced on February 17. The decision was made after discussions between the NTSA board of directors and the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir. “The NTSA Board of Directors, in consultation with the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Roads and Transport, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Nashon Kondiwa as the director general of the National Transport and Safety Authority for a term of three years,” the statement noted. Kondiwa succeeds Angela Wanjira, replacing the outgoing director general George Njao. Njao completed his maximum two terms at the position before leaving. Prior to this appointment, Kondiwa served as the deputy director for Information Communication Technology (ICT) at the authority since April 2021, where he was responsible for driving the digital transformation of NTSA and its delivery systems. He brings over 22 years of expertise in ICT, innovation, public sector leadership, intelligent transport systems, and digital transformation within the transport sector. As the new director general, Kondiwa will provide strategic leadership to implement NTSA’s mandate of managing road transport and enhancing safety across Kenya. He will also function as the head of NTSA and secretary to the authority’s board. He will be responsible for overseeing the routine operations, staff management, and administration of the authority. Additionally, Kondiwa will manage board liaison, serving as the connection point between the board of directors and management, ensuring all board decisions are carried out, among other functions. The position requires candidates to hold a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, Sciences, Technology, Commerce, Law, or a related field from a recognized university. Applicants must also have a minimum of 15 years of experience in either the public or private sector, with five of those years at the senior management level.
