Narok residents assured of adequate security

by KenyaPolls

Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has offered strong reassurances to the community, pledging enhanced security throughout the festive holidays. Speaking at William Ole Ntimama Stadium during the Jamhuri Day commemorations, he revealed that several individuals responsible for violence in Narok Town in recent months have already been arrested and are now facing prosecution. He urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious behaviour, and stressed that authorities would work to protect both locals and tourists.
Lotiatia highlighted a series of recent measures to strengthen security: the crackdown on criminal elements who had troubled Narok in September and October, and increased law-enforcement presence to deter further incidents. In addition, he cautioned motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and adhere to traffic regulations, noting that the expected influx of tourists heading to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve during Christmas and New Year calls for greater caution on the roads. He also challenged residents to stop blocking highways — for instance, after livestock accidents — and bring such matters to the attention of traffic police rather than resorting to barricades that disrupt travel.
In his address, the County Commissioner went on to warn unregulated alcohol sellers of impromptu inspections. Lotiatia said that security teams would be inspecting premises for non-standard beer, wine, and spirits to protect public health, especially during the high-traffic holiday season. He connected this move to broader efforts to curb crime, arguing that illicit alcohol can fuel antisocial behaviour and contribute to insecurity.
The assurances come at a moment when Narok County is grappling with demands for safer streets and more effective law enforcement. Residents’ concerns have been growing, especially amid reports of violence in Narok Town in recent months. Lotiatia’s remarks, therefore, signal a proactive shift by authorities to restore public confidence and ensure that both residents and visitors have peace of mind during the holidays — even as many prepare to travel to the iconic Maasai Mara.
