Nandi East Security Team Intensifies War on Illicit Brew
The security team in Nandi East Sub-County has intensified its crackdown on illicit brew, destroying a significant consignment of illegal alcohol in the latest phase of its sustained operation. The multi-agency operation, led by the National Government Administration Officers (NGAO) and the police, targeted known brewing dens and distribution networks, leading to the destruction of thousands of litres of chang’aa and busaa. Several suspects were also arrested and are awaiting prosecution.

The Deputy County Commissioner, who led the operation, stated that the war on illicit alcohol is a top priority for the region’s security committee. The brews have been linked to a rise in domestic violence, mental health issues, and a loss of productivity among the youth. The security team has vowed to maintain constant surveillance and conduct regular raids to ensure that the brewing cartels do not have an opportunity to regroup and resume their destructive trade.

Local administrators have been directed to work closely with village elders to identify and report all individuals involved in the production and sale of the illicit liquor. The security team is also engaging in public barazas to sensitize the community on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The intensified war is part of a broader national effort to eradicate the vice and restore the social fabric of communities that have been severely impacted by the illicit brew epidemic.
