Nairobi’s Industrial Zones Gain Priority Electricity Supply

by KenyaPolls

Kenya Power has announced a strategic collaboration with the Nairobi City County Government to upgrade electricity provision for industrial parks across the capital. The plan, revealed on 19 October, is designed to map out the power demands of Nairobi’s industrial zones and invest in infrastructure to ensure reliable and sufficient electricity for factories and logistics hubs.
Under the agreement, Kenya Power is working closely with county authorities to build the necessary bulk power infrastructure, including substations and transformers tailored for industrial use. This includes provisions for 50 mVA bulk power connection at Nairobi Gate Industrial Park — one of the city’s key manufacturing and export zones. Alongside this, the Eastern Bypass‑based SEZ park benefits from robust utility planning with stable power supply integrated into its design.
The push for prioritized power in industrial hubs has been welcomed by investors and manufacturers. For industrial tenants, reliable electricity means lower downtime, reduced costs, and greater confidence to scale operations. At the same time, offering industrial parks stable power could help Nairobi attract more export‑oriented firms to its SEZs. Still, experts stress that long-term success depends on completed infrastructure investments, efficient supply management, and a clear roadmap between Kenya Power and county planners.
