Nairobi Tech Firm Develops IoT-Enabled Football for Grassroots Training

by KenyaPolls

Kenyan IoT company, Beba Tech, has developed Akiba Ball, a cost-effective football embedded with sensors that connect to a coach’s smartphone via Bluetooth. The ball measures strike force, spin, and trajectory, providing instant feedback on shooting and passing technique. Priced 60% lower than international equivalents, it targets academies and schools. We built it for our context—durable, solar-rechargeable, and affordable. It’s a pocket-sized coach, said Beba Tech CTO Ian Okoth. The company is seeking partnerships with the Ministry of Education for nationwide distribution.
