Nairobi County rolled out Digital Training Programs specifically tailored for the creative industry, empowering artists, designers, filmmakers, and content creators with essential digital skills. The initiative was part of the county’s Business Digital Transformation Agenda (April 2025), which seeks to embed technology into all sectors of the economy. Officials emphasized that the creative industry is a vital contributor to Nairobi’s innovation ecosystem, and digital literacy is key to unlocking its full potential.
The training focused on areas such as digital content creation, e-commerce integration, intellectual property management, and social media marketing. Creatives were also introduced to AI-powered design tools, cloud-based collaboration platforms, and digital payment systems, enabling them to monetize their work more effectively and reach global audiences. Nairobi County partnered with universities, tech hubs, and private sector organizations to deliver workshops, online courses, and mentorship programs.
Artists and entrepreneurs welcomed the program, noting that it helps them overcome challenges such as limited access to global markets, lack of digital skills, and high production costs. Analysts argue that the training is transformative for Nairobi’s creative industry, as it enables local talent to compete internationally, diversify revenue streams, and strengthen cultural exports. The initiative complements earlier programs such as the Nairobi Innovation Fund (March 2025) and the Green Business Initiative (October 2025), creating a comprehensive support framework for creative enterprises.
Looking ahead, Nairobi County plans to expand the training by integrating blockchain-based copyright protection, AI-driven creative incubators, and partnerships with global streaming platforms. Officials believe that by embedding digital literacy into the creative industry, Nairobi can accelerate job creation, attract investment, and reinforce its role as East Africa’s cultural and innovation hub.
