Nairobi County Introduces Weekly Cleanup Drives Across All 17 Sub-Counties

Nairobi County has announced a citywide clean-up exercise aimed at enhancing urban cleanliness, starting with Starehe Sub-County on 24th August. The initiative was unveiled by the County Executive Committee Member for Green Nairobi, Ms. Maureen Njeri, during an introductory meeting with Environment Sub-Sector heads and Sub-County Environment Officers.

Ms. Njeri emphasized the need for dedication and accountability among environment officers, stating, Environment is the face of the city and every staff plays a vital role in ensuring that the City is clean and green. She highlighted a holistic approach to revamping the environment docket, with a focus on partnerships and community engagement.

The initiative will support Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) involved in waste management, while all illegal waste collection points will be cleared and rehabilitated. Ms. Njeri acknowledged the achievements made so far and outlined plans to strengthen policy, legislation, and operational frameworks to transform Nairobi’s environment.

Environment Chief Officer Mr. Geoffrey Mosiria thanked the team for their support and urged staff cooperation to ensure success. Director of Environment, Mr. John Paul Malawi, welcomed the new sector heads and assured them of full support to deliver quality services to Nairobi residents.
