Nairobi County Assembly Adjourns Sitting Due to Lack of Quorum
The Nairobi City County Assembly’s sitting on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, was adjourned after failing to meet the required quorum to conduct official business. The afternoon session, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., was presided over by Hon. Malyun Ali, MCA, who confirmed that the House lacked the minimum number of Members of County Assembly (MCAs) needed to proceed with deliberations.
In accordance with the Assembly’s Standing Orders, the presiding chair ordered the bell to be rung for ten minutes to allow members additional time to join the session. However, after the allotted time expired and the quorum was still not achieved, Hon. Ali was compelled to adjourn the meeting. The session formally rose at 2:52 p.m., marking an early end to the day’s proceedings.
The Speaker announced that the Assembly would reconvene on Thursday, June 5, 2025. The adjournment highlights ongoing concerns over attendance and participation among MCAs, which have occasionally disrupted legislative business within the Nairobi County Assembly. The next sitting is expected to resume normal proceedings if quorum requirements are met.
