In a powerful demonstration of community spirit, residents and volunteers across Nairobi are joining forces to renovate dilapidated public school facilities under the banner of the Spread the Love campaign. Spearheaded by Mavuno Church, the initiative aims to refurbish 50 public primary schools by the end of 2025, mobilizing both congregants and local communities to contribute at least 1 million hours of volunteer labor annually.
The campaign has already made tangible progress. Over a two-day community drive held on August 9 and 10, 2025, volunteers targeted 30 schools, investing approximately KSh 9.2 million in upgrades. Projects ranged from repainting classrooms and landscaping grounds to renovating ablution blocks and repairing broken windows. Schools that benefited include Mlolongo Primary, Thindigua Primary, Lavington Primary, and Moi Avenue Primary, among others.
Local leaders and school administrators have lauded the initiative for boosting morale among both teachers and pupils. At Lavington Primary, for example, headteacher Lucas Ouma said the renovated staff rooms and refreshed infrastructure have inspired renewed commitment from educators and improved attendance. Community volunteers, many drawn from the church’s congregations, have expressed pride in playing a part—and say that contributing to the schools reflects a broader mission to uplift society.
Looking ahead, Mavuno Church and its partners hope to deepen their impact by forging more collaborations with county governments, corporates, and local stakeholders. The plan is not only to renovate more schools but also to build sustainable maintenance frameworks—ensuring that improvements made now are preserved for future generations.
