Murang’a County has launched a digital platform to streamline revenue collection, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce leakages. Governor Irungu Kang’ata announced that, starting January 1, 2023, residents will access county services digitally across key sectors including parking, markets, hospitals, quarries, and veterinary services.
To use the system, residents must first register by dialing *267# and following the on-screen instructions. The technology had been piloted in September 2022 and showed promising results, prompting full-scale implementation.
Governor Kang’ata explained that the digital system will curb previous malpractices, where county employees allegedly issued fake receipts and pocketed funds. Under the old manual system, the county collected approximately Sh50 million monthly, but with automation, the target is to exceed Sh200 million per month, enhancing service delivery for residents.
The digital platform also redefines staff roles: county employees will now supervise transactions instead of handling cash, ensuring transparency and accountability.
This move aligns with Murang’a County’s vision to modernize governance, leverage technology for efficiency, and deliver better services to its citizens.
