Mpox Cases Persist — Hundreds Reported, Counties Ramp Up Surveillance

by KenyaPolls

Health authorities have confirmed more than 300 Mpox cases nationally since the outbreak intensified, with five deaths recorded across 22 counties. Mombasa accounts for the largest share of infections, with other hot spots in border and port towns. The Ministry of Health said case detection and contact tracing have been strengthened while vaccination campaigns target high‑risk populations. County public health officials warned that stigma and delays in seeking care risked fuelling transmission and urged communities to report symptoms early. The outbreak response has exposed gaps in diagnostic capacity and emphasised the need for community engagement to complement clinical measures.
