A tense situation unfolded at Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary on Monday morning when a family arriving to collect their child’s body for burial discovered it could not be located.
Relatives and friends of one-year-old Lee Delyn Mukundi had arrived at the facility to retrieve the remains before burial proceedings in Kigumo Village, Runyenjes Constituency.
Mortuary attendants’ inability to produce the body disrupted the family’s plans.
The situation intensified as mourners pressed for explanations while threatening town demonstrations if burial arrangements weren’t honored.
Investigations subsequently revealed the remains had been mistakenly released to another family and already interred in Kiamuringa area.
The child’s father Kevin Mukundi recounted recognizing the presented body didn’t match his son’s young age and coffin size.
After temporarily seeking police assistance only to be redirected to hospital administration, delayed intervention escalated frustrations.
Embu County Chief Officer for Health Patrick Mukavi confirmed the processing error and initiated legal exhumation procedures while committing to covering burial costs. The family departed distraughtly awaiting governmental折不 resolution.
