Mokaya Reviews Kiambu Court Expansion; New Facilities Due by 2027

by KenyaPolls

Hon. Winfridah Mokaya, the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, conducted an assessment at Kiambu Law Courts to identify service delivery shortcomings and consider administrative measures to boost efficiency and justice accessibility. The court’s administration, under the guidance of Hon. Justice Dorah Chepkwony and Hon. Zipporah Gichana, outlined multiple challenges impacting service effectiveness. These encompassed insufficient office facilities, a substantial caseload accumulation, security weaknesses, and general resource deficiencies. The most critical needs identified centered on expanding physical facilities and reinforcing security protocols at the court location. During her inspection, the Chief Registrar was joined by the Deputy Director of Construction and Maintenance Works, the Director of Accounts, the Director of Supply Chain Management, and other high-ranking officials to examine the current development activities at the judicial premises. The construction initiative will result in nine extra courtrooms and nine offices. Upon finalization, it is projected to considerably alleviate spatial limitations, improve protection for judicial personnel, employees, and court visitors, and enable the assignment of more judicial officers. This development will play a crucial role in diminishing the existing caseload backlog and elevating overall service performance. The initiative, planned for conclusion in December 2027, is expected to markedly improve legal access for Kiambu County inhabitants.
