Ministry Reveals Details on Fatal Helicopter Crash Claiming MP Johana Ngeno

Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir has provided comprehensive information regarding the fatal helicopter accident that resulted in the death of Emur Dikirr Member of Parliament Johana Ngeno. Besides MP Ngeno, the crash also claimed the lives of pilot George Were and passengers Amos Kipngetich Rotich and Nick Koskei. The accident took place in Chepkiep, Mosop Constituency, Nandi County. According to a statement released on Sunday, the helicopter, registered as 5Y-DSB, disappeared from radar shortly after taking off from Tabolwa on Saturday afternoon. The last recorded position of the aircraft was at coordinates 0°23’25″N, 34°59’51″E. Ministry-provided preliminary flight data indicates the aircraft’s itinerary for the day: it departed Wilson Airport at 11:04 a.m. with stops at Emur Dikirr, Mararianta, Endebes (twice), Eldoret Airstrip, and finally Tabolwa, where it arrived at 4:20 p.m. The aircraft departed again from Tabolwa at 4:25 p.m. but vanished from radar just one minute later at 4:26 p.m. The government’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID), functioning under the State Department for Aviation and Aerospace Development, arrived at the crash site on Saturday and commenced their investigation. Following International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 13 protocols, Kenya has officially informed the aircraft’s manufacturing and design country, as well as ICAO. According to the Cabinet Secretary, a preliminary report is expected within the next 30 days. Chirchir conveyed ‘deep condolences on behalf of the Ministry of Roads and Transport’ and his personal family, describing the incident as a national tragedy. He reiterated the government’s steadfast dedication to aviation safety and requested public patience during the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the government advised citizens to avoid speculation and await official findings from the current inquiry.
