Migori County Launches Foot and Mouth Disease Vaccination Drive for Livestock
The Migori County Government has announced a countywide vaccination campaign for livestock against the deadly Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD). The initiative, running from November through December 2025, targets cloven-hoofed animals including cattle and pigs.
The vaccination program, led by the County’s Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Development Department, aims to curb the rapid spread of FMD, which causes fever and blisters on affected animals, threatening productivity and livelihoods.
Farmers are encouraged to participate at their local Ward Farmer Producer Organization offices across Migori’s 40 wards, contributing a nominal fee of KSh 50 per registered cow. The program will leverage the E-Voucher system via the Mifugo 360 Super App to ensure transparency, traceability, and efficient service delivery.
This exercise is implemented by the Directorate of Veterinary Services and supported by the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP). County officials emphasize that the initiative will protect livestock, improve productivity, and secure farmers’ livelihoods.
