Meru County has officially launched the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), with an event led by County Commissioner Jacob Ouma in collaboration with the County Government. The campaign theme for the year is Unite to End Violence Against Women and Girls (#noexcuse).
Health Services Chief Officer, Dr. Joseph Wahome, represented Governor Kawira Mwangaza and highlighted the campaign’s importance in raising awareness, assessing progress, and charting a strategic path toward ending GBV. The Governor also acknowledged the efforts of partners actively involved in GBV mitigation within the county.
Commissioner Jacob Ouma emphasized the need to reevaluate the role of Chiefs and their assistants in preventing GBV at the community level.
Key implementing partners in attendance included SOS Children’s Villages, Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Catholic Diocese of Isiolo, USAID JAMII Tekelezi, Ripples International, Center for Rights Education and Awareness, Kenya Methodist University, and Khetias Supermarket, Meru. Other notable attendees were Deputy County Police Commander Madam Rutere, Imenti North Deputy County Commissioner Odilia Ndeti, Health Administration Director Dr. Koome Muthuri, and select members of the County Health Management Team.
The initiative underscores Meru County’s commitment to creating safer communities and promoting gender equality.
