Marsabit County hosted Kenya’s first ASAL Night Marathon on December 11, 2025—made possible by its fleet of wind-solar hybrid lighting kits (News #328). Over 1,200 runners from 12 pastoralist communities raced 10km under starlight and turbine-powered LEDs. Winner: 19-year-old Lemaron Lokori (31:42). The wind lit our path—the stars guided our pace, he said. The event raised KSh 8 million for mobile clinics. Crime dropped 61% in the region during the weekend. The World Bank will fund 10 more ASAL night races in 2026.
