Marsabit’s Solar Nomad Sports Kits Win UN Innovation Award

by KenyaPolls

Marsabit County’s Solar Nomad Sports Kits (News #244, #274)—portable, solar-powered goalball, boccia, and teqball sets for pastoralist schools—won the 2025 *UN Public Service Award for Innovation* on October 23, 2025. The UN praised their elegant fusion of renewable energy, mobility, and inclusive design. Each kit fits in a camel saddlebag, charges in 2 hours of sun, and serves 30 students. Over 150 kits are now deployed across ASAL counties. The UN will fund replication in Niger, Mali, and Mongolia. Inclusion travels at the speed of light—and solar power, said Governor Mohamud Ali.
