Political analyst Herman Manyora faces cheating charges under Section 315 of the Penal Code for allegedly securing Sh516,000 through deceptive means in relation to a fraudulent tender process involving Nairobi Hospital.
Manyora appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai at the Milimani Law Courts and pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The court heard that between August 15, 2024, and October 30, 2024, in Nairobi County, the accused allegedly received Sh516,000 from Josephine Luceno Kavulani by making false promises to help her company, Sipho Construction Limited, secure Tender No. TNH/ITB/016/24/ENGINEERING at Nairobi Hospital.
Prosecutors stated that the complainant would not have transferred the funds without the alleged fraudulent representation.
Manyora’s lawyer Nelson Havi sought his release on bond, assuring the court that his client is not a flight risk and has complied with previous summons from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The prosecution did not object to his release but suggested that the court should decide on the amount of cash bail.
Magistrate Mutai observed that the accused had previously been granted a personal bond while in police custody and had fulfilled the required conditions.
“I have reviewed the bond application and note that the prosecution has no objection. I also observe that the accused was previously released on personal bond by police and complied. Therefore, I release him on a personal bond of Sh2 million with two sureties,” ruled the magistrate.
The next mention of the case is scheduled for April 13, 2026.
