Mandera County Allocates Ksh 14.89 Billion in 2024/25 Budget, Focuses on Development Projects

Mandera, Kenya – The County Government of Mandera has released its Programme-Based Budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, projecting a total revenue of Ksh 14.89 billion to fund county operations and development priorities.

According to the budget document prepared by the County Treasury, Ksh 12.05 billion will come from the national government as an equitable share, while conditional grants contribute Ksh 1.19 billion. Revenue carried forward from the previous fiscal year totals Ksh 1.31 billion, and the county expects to generate Ksh 336.5 million from its own-source collections.

The budget allocates 60% (Ksh 8.95 billion) to recurrent expenditures, covering salaries, administration, and ongoing operations, while 40% (Ksh 5.94 billion) is dedicated to development projects. This ensures compliance with the Public Finance Management (PFM) Act, which mandates that at least 30% of county budgets be spent on development.

Key development priorities include the completion of ongoing projects and initiation of new infrastructure, health, education, and social services initiatives, in line with Mandera’s County Integrated Development Plan (CIDP 2023-2027) and the Annual Development Plan FY 2024/2025.

The County Treasury emphasized that the budget was prepared in accordance with Article 201 of the Constitution of Kenya, ensuring openness, accountability, and public participation in financial matters.

This budget comes at a time when Mandera is striving to accelerate development while maintaining fiscal prudence, with the county focusing on maximizing revenue collection and efficient allocation of resources to key sectors.
