Mandera County Launches Peace Football League Across Clan Lines

by KenyaPolls

Mandera County launched the Mandera Peace Football League on December 15, 2024—uniting 12 clans in 6 teams, with matches officiated by elders and youth councils. The league includes mandatory dialogue sessions and shared farming projects. In 6 months, inter-clan clashes dropped 72% (per county security data). The ball replaced the bullet, said Governor Ali Roba. UNDP funded kits and boreholes for team farms. The final, held in Mandera Town, drew 8,000 fans. Plans for a regional league with Ethiopia and Somalia are underway.
