Machakos County Ranked Among Top Counties in Budget Transparency Survey

Machakos County has been ranked fourth in the 2023 County Budget Transparency Survey (CBTS) conducted by the International Budget Partnership Kenya (IBK). The survey evaluates the availability of 11 key budget documents, including the County Integrated Development Plan, Annual Development Plan, Approved Program-Based Budget, and Quarterly Implementation Reports.

Machakos County published all 11 documents, scoring 74 out of 100 points—a significant improvement from 47 points in 2022 and 33 points in 2021. Governor Wavinya Ndeti credited the reforms initiated by the County Treasury and the Finance Department, led by CEC Member Onesmus Kuyu, for enhancing fiscal discipline, accountability, and compliance across county departments.

Other top-performing counties were Kwale (81 points), Makueni (80), and Bungoma (78), while the lowest scores were recorded by Uasin Gishu (25), Homa Bay (25), Embu (22), and Trans-Nzoia (20). Governor Ndeti assured residents that the county remains committed to fair, transparent, and accountable financial governance.
